Go with Jo – Driving School Branding & Website

Helping Jo launch her driving school in the Bay of Plenty was such a fun project to be part of. After relocating from Christchurch, Jo brought her fantastic driving school to Papamoa, Mount Maunganui and Tauranga and needed a brand presence that would help her quickly establish herself in a new region.

From branding through to signage and a website, this project was all about creating a cohesive identity that feels friendly, professional and instantly recognisable out on the road.

Logo and brand identity

The project started with creating Jo’s logo and core brand identity. The goal was to design something approachable and memorable that would appeal to new drivers and their families, while still feeling professional and trustworthy.

Driving schools rely heavily on recognition within the local community, so the branding needed to stand out clearly while also feeling welcoming. The result is a confident and playful identity that reflects Jo’s personality and the supportive way she teaches.

Her slogan, “Smash your test, not your car,” captures that perfectly — memorable, encouraging and just the right amount of cheeky.

Website design and build

Once the branding was in place, I designed and built Jo’s website using RocketSpark. The focus was on keeping things simple, clear and easy for visitors to navigate.

The website explains Jo’s services, provides information for learner drivers and makes it straightforward for people to get in touch to book lessons. It’s designed to be welcoming for new drivers while also reassuring for parents looking for a safe and experienced instructor.

Vehicle signage

One of the most important parts of this project was the vehicle signage. For a driving school, the car is effectively a moving billboard that travels through the community every day.

I designed the signage to be bold, clear and instantly recognisable so the brand stands out when Jo is driving around Papamoa, Mount Maunganui and Tauranga. Seeing the car out on the road is always a great reminder of how powerful good design can be when it moves beyond the screen and into the real world.

Business cards and flyers

To complete the brand rollout, I also designed Jo’s business cards and flyers. These materials help her promote the business locally and ensure the brand stays consistent across every touchpoint — whether someone finds her online or through word of mouth.

Bringing the brand to life

Projects like this are always incredibly rewarding. Jo is genuinely one of the loveliest people to work with, and it was such a pleasure helping her bring her driving school to a new community.

Seeing the website live, the brand materials in use, and the car driving around town with the new signage is a great reminder of how thoughtful branding can help a small business get established and recognised quickly.
