United Tunneling website design and digital presence

Bringing visibility to a business built on word of mouth

United Tunneling has built a strong reputation across New Zealand since 2014, delivering specialist underground infrastructure solutions through precision microtunneling and trenchless drilling. For years, the business has grown almost entirely through word of mouth — a testament to the quality of their work.

More recently, the mindset shifted to “you can’t sell a secret” and recognising the value of having a digital presence that reflects the scale and capability of what they do. That’s where this project began.

Working with Nathan and the team, the goal was to create a website that finally brings their work into view, without changing what already makes the business strong.

A brand already established in the real world

United Tunneling’s logo and identity were already well established across signage, machinery and job sites, so there was no need to reinvent it. Instead, the focus was on building a digital presence that felt aligned with the existing brand and lifted it online.

Rather than changing what already worked, the project centred around creating structure, clarity and visual storytelling that better communicates their expertise.

Showcasing complex underground capability

United Tunneling specialises in microtunneling and underground pipeline installation, working with pipe diameters ranging from 150mm through to 3.0 metres. Their work is often brought in when traditional excavation methods aren’t suitable — whether due to depth, complexity or environmental constraints.

The website, built on RocketSpark, needed to reflect this level of technical capability in a clear and confident way.

With strong imagery already captured across a range of projects throughout New Zealand, the design direction focused on letting the work speak for itself. Large-scale infrastructure, complex ground conditions and precision installations now sit front and centre, helping communicate the scale of what the team delivers.

A visual language to match the work

While the brand identity remained unchanged, a supporting visual language was developed through the website design to tie everything together.

The goal was to create a clean, structured platform that feels grounded and industrial, while still being easy to navigate for engineers, councils, contractors and developers. Each section was designed to clearly explain services, highlight capability, and support credibility within the infrastructure space.

A long overdue digital presence

This project wasn’t about changing who United Tunneling are — it was about finally giving their work the visibility it deserves.

With such a strong reputation already built in the industry, the website now acts as a supporting platform that reinforces their expertise, showcases past projects, and makes it easier for new clients to understand the scale of what they do.

It’s always rewarding to work on businesses like this — where the work speaks for itself, and the design simply helps bring it forward.
